Features
From linked-account visibility to flexible expense splitting, FlowFin brings personal finance and shared balances into one workflow.
See every connected account, recent transaction, pending split, and upcoming card or loan payment in a single view.
Plaid-powered connections pull transactions and organize them by merchant, category, and date. Recategorize or split many at once.
Split any transaction equally, by exact amount, percentage, shares, or adjustment, with multiple payers.
Link checking, savings, credit cards, student loans, and mortgages. Sync on your schedule and get reminded before a payment is due.
Explore spending by category and account using the transactions persisted from your linked accounts.
Record partial payments, confirm external settlements, reverse mistakes, and simplify group debts.
No spreadsheets. No manual reconciliation. Connect, sync, and split — FlowFin keeps the workflow together.
Open Plaid Link and add a demo bank. FlowFin uses Plaid’s test environment, so no real bank data is ever connected.
Accounts sync automatically on your schedule, keeping your dashboard, activity list, spending reports, and payment reminders up to date.
Choose a transaction, invite friends, calculate each share, and record or confirm the settlement.
Security First
FlowFin uses demo bank data only, so your real bank login and transactions never touch it. Tokens are encrypted, passwords are hashed, and sessions rotate automatically.
Plaid access tokens are encrypted with AES-GCM before they are stored and are never sent to the browser.
FlowFin connects to Plaid’s test environment, never to real banks, so no real bank credentials or transactions are ever involved.
Passwords use Argon2id, access tokens stay in memory, and HTTP-only refresh cookies rotate on every use.
Add an authenticator app for an extra step at sign-in, and review or sign out active sessions from Profile & Settings.
FlowFin brings common shared-finance scenarios into a consistent, auditable workflow.
“Keep rent, groceries, and utilities in one shared history instead of reconciling a spreadsheet every month.”
“Turn a trip full of dinners, taxis, and stays into clear balances and a smaller set of final payments.”
“See where linked-account spending goes, then split the transactions that belong to friends or housemates.”
Anyone. FlowFin is a free, non-commercial personal project, and while it runs on demo bank data sign-up is open — create an account with any email address.
FlowFin connects only to Plaid’s Sandbox, a test environment with simulated banks. Sign in to any bank in Plaid Link with username user_good and password pass_good — never your real bank login. The accounts, balances and transactions you see are sample data.
FlowFin never connects to your real bank, so your real balances and transactions are never stored here — linked accounts hold Plaid demo data only. Your account details and the expenses you enter are still protected: Plaid access tokens are encrypted before storage, passwords are hashed with Argon2id, and sign-in sessions use rotating HTTP-only cookies. You can add two-factor authentication at any time.
Yes, for credit cards, student loans, and mortgages whose lenders share payment details through Plaid. FlowFin shows the due date and amount, alerts you on the dashboard, and notifies you before the due date, on the day, and if the lender reports it overdue. Auto loans and home equity lines aren’t available from Plaid yet.
Not yet. Everyone in a split needs a FlowFin account; find friends by username or email and invite them in the app.
None with real data. FlowFin uses Plaid’s demo versions of US banks, card issuers and credit unions, so you don’t need a bank account to try it. International students are welcome; US citizenship or permanent residency is not required.
